I’m Walter McBrier, founder of GCM Group. I’ve spent over 20 years in construction—from field operations and executive leadership to global cost management for complex commercial, laboratory, office, and infrastructure projects.

That experience taught me that the hardest construction problems are rarely contained in one spreadsheet or one schedule. They sit at the intersection of scope, cost, time, contracts, project records, and the decisions people made along the way.

Today, I help sureties, lenders, insurers, legal teams, owners, and other institutional stakeholders understand what happened, quantify what it means, and determine what to do next. My work includes contractor-default and surety claims, distressed-project and workout analysis, forensic scheduling, change-order and entitlement evaluation, cost and damages analysis, and expert witness and litigation support.

I approach each engagement as both a construction professional and an independent analyst: organize the record, test the assumptions, identify the issues that matter, and explain the conclusions clearly enough to support real decisions.

Estimating, cost analysis, schedule analysis, claims evaluation, and damages quantification are core GCM capabilities. When an assignment requires architectural, engineering, code, structural, or another specialized discipline, I can bring qualified professionals into the engagement. GCM Group does not provide architecture or engineering design services.

Based in Boise, Idaho, I work nationwide on both remote and on-site assignments.

When I’m not in the data, you’ll usually find me on a gravel ride, in the mountains, or on the river with my kids. That same outlook carries into my work: straightforward, steady, and built to last.
